‘Invisible’ braces offering Purley patients discreet, comfortable teeth straightening.
Choosing to have your teeth straightened often means a commitment to wearing dental braces for a significant period of time and this is particularly the case where teeth are significantly out of alignment. It is important that teeth are not put under excessive pressure to re-position them, and this means that a gentle pressure needs to be exerted over a longer period of time, very often for more than a year.
This is one of the main reasons why people sometimes choose to leave their teeth crooked, rather than wear braces for a long time. In many cases though, when people think of dental braces, they tend to think of the old fashioned metal ones, and are probably unaware of the wide range of modern cosmetic dental braces which now exist. One of the most popular of these being the Invisalign orthodontic system.
In today’s blog, we look at why patients who are looking to have their teeth straightened should consider using the Invisalign system offered by our Purley cosmetic dentists.
As you may have guessed from the name, Invisalign orthodontics are designed to be as discreet as possible. Instead of using brackets and wires, as traditional dental braces do, Invisalign uses a series of transparent medical grade plastic trays which are worn directly over the teeth. These are produced from impressions of your teeth and each tray is designed to be worn for two or three weeks before being replaced with the next in the series. Each tray eases your teeth just a little more towards their desired position until they are straight and even.
Although you may find the feel of your new braces a little unusual at first, you will soon become accustomed to them. The vast majority of patients at the Confidental Clinic who have worn them, have noted how they soon got used to them and how easy it was to go about their normal lives.
A big ‘selling point’ of Invisalign is that, unlike traditional braces, they are designed to be removed both for eating meals and when cleaning your teeth. This is excellent news for those who may be worried about the effect on their social life that wearing braces may have. If you enjoy eating out with friends, you no longer have to worry about which foods you can and can’t eat; you simply remove the trays whilst eating and return them afterwards.
As anyone who has worn traditional braces will tell you, cleaning your teeth can be a real problem. In fact, there is a heightened risk from tooth decay and gum disease when wearing traditional braces due to food and bacteria becoming trapped in them. With Invisalign braces, you simply remove them to clean your teeth and return them afterwards, having made sure that the trays have also been cleaned. You will be given more detailed instructions about this during your consultation at our Purley dental practice.
