Registering With An NHS Dentist

Essential NHS dentistry is available at our Purley dental practice.

If you are new to the Purley area, or are looking to move from your current dentist, you may have come across our practice and wondered what we can offer?

We pride ourselves on providing an excellent service for all our patients and we offer a wide range of procedures, both general and cosmetic, where required.

We have covered many cosmetic dental procedures in previous blogs, and, in today’s, we take a look at a few of the treatments that our Purley NHS dental patients can expect.

Essential care

NHS dentistry is not designed to make your teeth look great, although we will always do whatever we can to produce the most aesthetic result possible. What it does provide though, is good quality essential dental care that will keep your teeth and gums in good health.

Dental checks

An essential aspect of any good dental care is to have your teeth checked on a regular basis. For most people, this will be every six months. In some circumstances, you may be requested to attend more regularly; diabetics, for example, are more prone to dental problems.

A common treatment that most people will be familiar with is the dental filling. If this is done on the NHS, an amalgam filling will be used. These are very strong, but are also very visible, being a dark material. Tooth coloured dental fillings are available, but only if paid for privately.

Professional clean

Good gum health is important, and, ideally, we suggest that patients see our dental hygienist on a regular basis. Not only will this remove tartar from the teeth and gum line, but will also leave your teeth looking cleaner and feeling fresher. This is available on the NHS, but only where clinically required.

Root canal work

All essential dental care is available on the NHS and this includes root canal work. You will not be left in pain just because you are an NHS patient. Other procedures available including extractions, but not more complex cosmetic procedures which are only available privately.

What is NOT available

Having said that NHS dental care is sufficient to provide you with a good standard of oral health, it has to be said that there are a wide range of procedures that are only available privately. Dental finance is available to help with this and is worth considering if you want to have great looking teeth as well.

Some of the treatments available include

  • Teeth whitening
  • Dental implants
  • Invisible braces
  • Dental veneers
